Group ZEROBASEONE shared behind-the-scenes stories about the inclusion of PARK GUNWOOK’s self-composed song.

 

ZEROBASEONE met with Hanteo News at a cafe in Seoul on the 15th and talked about the album production process. On this day, SUNG HANBIN said, “It really showed in this song that he knows the members’ strengths and has always had a lot of interest in them,” adding, “I felt very proud of him.”

 

The 4th track on this album is ‘Customize,’ a song written by PARK GUNWOOK. PARK GUNWOOK recalled, “I started composing last year, and since this is the first album we are releasing as a five-member group, I thought it would carry deeper meaning if there was a song written by a member, so I worked hard so it could be selected.” He continued, “The fact that I was able to help the team makes me the happiest, and by having my name in the credits, I feel like the possibilities and color of the new ZEROBASEONE became a little stronger, so I’m proud.” Composing, which he originally started because he was not good at resting, has now become a real hobby. He added, “As I kept doing it, it became fun, so I hope I can keep working on many songs and have more chances to release them to the world.”

 

He also experienced producing the song himself. PARK GUNWOOK shared, “As someone who usually receives directing, I tried to apply what I had learned to the members,” adding, “I was worried because it could feel awkward for a member to direct, but the members maintained their energy until the end inside the recording booth, so it was a much more comfortable and enjoyable time than I had expected.”

 

KIM TAERAE revealed the behind story of how the self-composed song came to be. He recalled, “I heard PARK GUNWOOK working on it at home, and after writing such a cool song, he asked me to sing the guide,” adding, “I asked him where he was going to use this song, but he wouldn’t tell me.” He continued, “Later, it became a great song on our album, and he told me he made it to fit my vocal range and tone.” PARK GUNWOOK said, “It was fun because the members all delivered exactly as I had imagined.”

 

PARK GUNWOOK’s own descriptions of the members’ vocals also drew attention. Regarding SUNG HANBIN, he described his voice as “a voice like a rough wind,” adding, “Even though his vocal range is wide, there isn’t a big difference across the range, so everything sounds good broadly.” About KIM JIWOONG, he said, “His fine voice is very sexy, and the breaking sound when he hits high notes is charming.” For SEOK MATTHEW, he explained, “His sound has a firm and chewy feel, so the way he pulls it up in singing rap or mid-to-high notes is charming.” As for KIM TAERAE, he made everyone laugh by saying, “Since he is so good at singing, you just have to push him to his limit.” KIM TAERAE answered when asked about PARK GUNWOOK’s vocals, praising him by saying, “He is so good at rhythm and riding the beat that he really brings out the chewy quality of the music and raises the quality of the song much higher.”

 

The other members also share the same desire to work on music. SEOK MATTHEW said, “I sometimes work on songs with GUNWOOK and also work on my own,” adding, “I like R&B, so I want to make an R&B-style song and include it on an album.” When asked if he would like to try making a title track as well, he laughed loudly as if he liked the thought alone, saying, “Me? A title track?” PARK GUNWOOK said, “I hope there will be a song we all write together someday,” adding, “I think it would be fun if we all wrote lyrics for a fan song together and also wrote the melody together.”

 

ZEROBASEONE’s 6th mini album ‘Ascend-’ will be released today at 6 PM through various music platforms. Attention is focused on what kind of record ZEROBASEONE, who recorded 1,514,370 initial chodong sales with their 1st full-length album ‘NEVER SAY NEVER’ last September, will write with this album.
