Group ZEROBASEONE shared their ambition to showcase a mature charm through this comeback.
ZEROBASEONE met with Hanteo News at a cafe in Seoul on the 15th and discussed the performance and visuals of their new song. On this day, PARK GUNWOOK said, “If we talked about youth before, now we want to deliver a slightly more mature charm.”
PARK GUNWOOK explained the direction of this concept. He said, “Since we described our last concert as a completion concert, we wanted to carry an image of graduating and newly breaking out of our shell.” They also made changes in terms of visuals. SUNG HANBIN shared, “Our team’s color is bright blue, and without losing that, we define ourselves as a more mature blue with a deeper shade,” adding, “We also toned down the makeup a lot and tried many new challenges.”
They also put great effort into the performance. PARK GUNWOOK explained, “Rather than creating a stage people can go wild for, we wanted to create a stage people can feel,” adding, “We wanted to make a performance where the choreography and song fit tightly together while making the most of the melody and beat, so that when people watch the choreography, they can really feel the song.” He continued, “We adopted classic lines and movements used in the early 2000s, so I think people will be able to feel a familiar and sexy charm.”
Their efforts to express the 2000s sensibility were also extraordinary. SEOK MATTHEW said, “I love 2nd-generation songs so much, so when I heard we were doing that concept, I felt like my time had come,” adding, “Stages from the 2000s have clean choreography and lines, and they look cool even without doing anything, so I tried to bring out that atmosphere as much as possible.” SUNG HANBIN said, “It was very different from my usual style, so I became interested while studying this kind of rhythm and body movement,” adding, “The company found references for us, and we watched them, captured the feeling, and applied it when filming the music video or doing the choreography.” As for reference artists, PARK GUNWOOK named Justin Timberlake and Usher, while SEOK MATTHEW chose Michael Jackson.
Regarding the team’s strength, KIM TAERAE said, “In terms of vocal performance, we continue to talk more with each other and make up for what we lack,” adding, “There are still many kinds of music we haven’t shown yet, so we are practicing a lot so that we can pursue naturalness in any genre.”
When asked which artist they would like to film a challenge with, SEOK MATTHEW drew attention by answering, “An artist I think would suit this song well is EXO KAI.”
ZEROBASEONE’s 6th mini album ‘Ascend-’ will be released today at 6 PM through various music platforms. Attention is focused on what kind of record ZEROBASEONE, who recorded 1,514,370 initial chodong sales with their 1st full-length album ‘NEVER SAY NEVER’ last September, will write with this album.
