▶SEVENTEEN’s one-and-only performance…PERFECT 1st Studio Album ‘FIRST ‘LOVE&LETTER’’
Before we talk about SEVENTEEN’s memorable choreographies, we must point out that SEVENTEEN’s performances are already well known for being unique and perfect. So it was not easy to choose a particular performance that can be explained easily.
We cannot discuss SEVENTEEN’s performance without ‘Pretty U’, the title track of the 1st Studio Album ‘FIRST ‘LOVE&LETTER’’. SEVENTEEN showed their interesting and humorous choreography with the previous tracks ‘Adore U’ and ‘Mansae’. There are three reasons why we chose ‘Pretty U’ as an example of SEVENTEEN’s legendary performance among others.
First is the theatrical elements of the choreography. The intro of ‘Pretty U’ has a part where the members line up like a curtain of a stage. With this simple touch, the progression of the whole choreography flows naturally like a musical. SEVENTEEN also used a couch as an object to highlight the entrance and exit of the members, which spiced up the whole performance.
Second is the chorus section, which is the highlight of the entire choreography. A gesture that looks like an aside of the main character from a musical starts from the member Hoshi and spreads throughout the group. This group performance that perfectly drops on the beat makes the audience satisfied. Also, the point choreography of ‘Pretty U’ uses the actual sign language for the phrase ‘you are pretty’ and caused a sensation among fans.
Lastly, SEVENTEEN never showed the same performance on the music show programs. Ever since the debut performance, SEVENTEEN always added small changes in choreography and showed the perfect level of performance regardless of the busy schedules.
Throughout the performance of ‘Pretty U’ with these three points, SEVENTEEN achieved the titles of ‘the performance master’, ‘perfect group performance’, ‘a group never fails to show a satisfying performance’, and more.
▶SEVENTEEN’s first sentimental title track with a perfect group performance…4th Mini Album ‘Al1’
After releasing many albums, SEVENTEEN released the 4th Mini Album ‘Al1’ with the sentimental title track, ‘Don’t Wanna Cry’.
SEVENTEEN’s 4th Mini Album ‘Al1’ is the beginning of their ‘2017 SEVENTEEN PROJECT,’ which marked SEVENTEEN as the icon of K-pop. ‘Don’t Wanna Cry’ is the first title track that SEVENTEEN used the word ‘love’ in the lyrics of a title track, which announced SEVENTEEN’s change of concept from boys to men.
SEVENTEEN once again surprised the audience by adding the perfect group performance along with the sentimental mood of the song. There are three points in the choreography of ‘Don’t Wanna Cry’ that we must focus on.
First off, SEVENTEEN illustrates the complex emotions of sad and complicated feelings with a simple yet complicated gesture of holding each other’s arms. The performance goes on with the choreography that conveys the message of the song straightforwardly with the gesture of the street lamps lighting up.
Point two: it is not easy to use powerful movements in sentimental songs such as ‘Don’t Wanna Cry’. SEVENTEEN, however, broke such stereotypes. There is a group movement in the middle of the song where the members line up in an ‘X’ shape formation. It is not considered to be a powerful or complicated choreography, but it could only be done with a large number of members. This use of big movements demonstrates that SEVENTEEN understands the choreography as ‘dance’ and ‘movement’ as a whole.
Lastly, a large number of the team members did not become the flaw of SEVENTEEN’s performance. It could be considered that it would be hard to focus on details with many members in the group, but SEVENTEEN turned their performance into even higher quality with the elements of modern dance.
Not only those two songs that are mentioned before, SEVENTEEN always manages to show a perfect level of performance every time they release new title tracks. SEVENTEEN also achieved the title of ‘Million-seller’ with the 7th Mini Album ‘Heng:garæ,’ which made the public look forward to their next step as the K-pop icon.
SEVENTEEN is currently on promotion with the Special Album ‘;(Semicolon)’ and providing joy to the K-pop fans all over the world.
Meanwhile, Whosfan will run a pop-up ad on the application for a week to celebrate SEVENTEEN’s winning for the poll. Mobile Whosfan application is available on PlayStore, AppStore, Galaxy Store, etc.
