Group BTS has solidly defended their spot and took the 1st place in the male group category of the album sales amount in the first half of 2020.
On July 6th, Hanteo Chart, the world's one-and-only real-time music chart, announced the 1st place in the male group category of the first half of 2020. The period of data collection for the first half of 2020 music chart was from January 1st to June 30th of 2020, and BTS earned the honor of the 1st place with the highest album sales among the male groups who released an album in the first half of the year with the 4th Studio Album 'MAP OF THE SOUL : 7.'
According to the data provided by Hanteo Chart, BTS's 'MAP OF THE SOUL : 7' album recorded the cumulative album sales of 3,790,648 copies since its release on February 21st until June 30th.
This album also recorded an overwhelming sales with the Initial Chodong (first week of the release) sales as well. According to the Initial Chodong sales data announced by Hanteo Chart on February 28th, the Initial Chodong sales amount of 'MAP OF THE SOUL : 7' counted from February 21st to 27th is 3,378,633 copies.
BTS's 4th Studio Album 'MAP OF THE SOUL : 7' celebrates the 7th year debut anniversary of the seven members. Therefore, BTS ranking its name as the only artist to record the Initial Chodong sales amount of more than 3 million copies in K-pop history added to the meaning of this album.
Moreover, this album is released after 'MAP OF THE SOUL : PERSONA,' which was released on April 12th of last year and set the Initial Chodong record of 2,130,480 copies. BTS surprises the public with every new release and the following records.
